About 50 people participated in the International Day of Climate Action in Belmont on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Members of Sustainable Belmont worked with the First Church Social Action Committee to organize an event held outside the First Church. See photos (courtesy of Deb Lockett).

Sustainable Belmont has several activities in the area of resource conservation and efficiency.

• We have completed the first draft of a Climate Action Plan (CAP) for Belmont and would like your input!
• Sustainable Belmont members participated in the formulation of the following policy statements:
  • Resource Savings Policy Statement , approved unanimously by the Belmont Board of Selectmen in 2006 and by the Belmont School Committee in 2007;
  • Sustainable Building Design Policy, drafted with the Town of Belmont’s Permanent Building Committee and unanimously approved by the Belmont Board of Selectmen in 2007.
• Sustainable Belmont works closely with the Belmont Municipal Light Department and Belmont Municipal Light Advisory Board on energy conservation and efficiency.
• We write articles on climate change and tips on energy conservation for community publications.
• We sponsor forums on climate change and energy conservation.
