Energy

Energy issues in Belmont include:

  • Achieving the goals of the Climate Action Plan – Belmont commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050
  • Improving School and Town buildings’ energy performance
  • Ratepayers in Belmont own the electric utility, Belmont Municipal Light Department, also known as Belmont Light, which presents great opportunity as clean energy increases and we electrify the common grid

 What can you do?

  • Reduce energy consumption at home: audits available through NationalGrid and Belmont Light Department, as well as ongoing incentive programs for appliance conversions and free energy saving bulbs
  • Bundle and reduce vehicle trips, choose public transportation or clean transit, opt for a more fuel-efficient vehicle, convert to an electric vehicle
  • Transition to cleaner heating and cooling; install solar panels

What is Sustainable Belmont doing?

  • Working with Belmont Light (Belmont’s Municipal Light Department) to institute greater energy efficiency measures throughout the town and increase clean-energy options for the Town and its residents
  • Working with the Town to join hundreds of other Green Communities throughout the Commonwealth to receive incentives for transitioning to higher energy efficiency and clean energy.
